API Integration Hub
A central integration hub for Cascade Retail unifying point-of-sale, inventory, and loyalty data across store locations.
Customer: Cascade Retail (demo)
Cascade Retail operates multiple physical locations alongside an online storefront, each historically connected through one-off, individually maintained integrations. We built a central integration hub that standardizes how every system connects, replacing a growing tangle of point-to-point connections.
Challenge
Each new integration Cascade Retail added — a new point-of-sale terminal type, a loyalty program update, a new store location — required custom one-off connection work, and the growing web of point-to-point integrations was becoming difficult to maintain or reason about.
Solution
We built a central integration hub that every system connects to once, rather than connecting directly to every other system it needs to exchange data with. New store locations or system changes now require one connection to the hub instead of updates across a tangle of point-to-point integrations.
Architecture
The hub exposes a consistent internal API and event stream that source systems (point-of-sale, inventory, loyalty, storefront) publish to and subscribe from. Transformation logic that used to be duplicated across point-to-point integrations now lives in one place. New store locations onboard by connecting their point-of-sale system to the hub once, rather than to every downstream system individually.
Key features
Hub-and-spoke integration model
Systems connect once to the hub instead of to every other system directly.
Centralized transformation logic
Data mapping and transformation rules live in one place, not duplicated per integration.
Standardized onboarding
New store locations connect through one consistent process.
Unified loyalty data
Loyalty point accrual and redemption stay consistent across all channels.
Integrations
Point-of-sale systems
Standardized connection for all store locations, regardless of terminal type.
Loyalty program
Consistent point tracking across in-store and online purchases.
Inventory management
Unified stock visibility across all connected systems.
Representative outcomes
Simplified new-location onboarding
New stores connect through one standard process instead of custom integration work.
Reduced integration maintenance burden
Transformation logic centralized instead of duplicated across point-to-point connections.
Consistent loyalty data across channels
Point balances stay accurate whether a customer shops in-store or online.
